Elena Gilbert, seventeen and newly orphaned, falls for Stefan Salvatore — a vampire who has come home to Mystic Falls, Virginia. His older brother Damon follows him. Developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec from L. J. Smith’s novels, the series ran on The CW from 10 September 2009 to 10 March 2017.
